Welcome Message for SNOSSA 2024 Conference

Dear Colleagues and Friends
Welcome to SNOSSA Harare 2024. It is now 6 years since this unique group of healthcare professionals and advocates involved in caring for patients with brain tumours met in Abuja for its first annual meeting. Founded in 2017 with the support of the Society for Neuro-Oncology and the International Brain Tumour Alliance, SNO sub-Saharan Africa determined at the outset to bring health care professionals and advocates under a single umbrella in order to most effectively square up to the many challenges that patients with brain tumours and their families face in the region.

That spirit of collaboration and multidisciplinarity has coloured SNOSSA’s vision of achieving improved outcomes for adult and paediatric brain and spine tumour patients in Central, South, East and West Africa. And we have received wonderful support from our community. Both from the healthcare professionals and advocates who have attended so loyally, and from a number of generous supporters who have helped to make the annual meetings possible.

This year’s theme Synergising Care in Neuro-Oncology exhorts us to realise the dream of integrated and evidence-based clinical and psychosocial care for neuro-oncology patients. We have a strong faculty of speakers from the region and our diaspora and many generous friends in the international community who attend at their own cost and share their knowledge.

And on behalf of the SNOSSA executive I need to acknowledge the efforts of our local organising and scientific committees, who have made this 7th meeting of SNOSSA possible. Please enjoy our science and everything that Harare and Zimbabwe have to offer. Wishing you three days of fellowship with new friends, new ideas and new collaborations.
